Town manager Leamon Brice has requested a meeting with Cornelius officials and developer Venture Properties to discuss the apparent “lack of progress” on building a main southern entrance to the 1,000-unit Antiquity Cornelius project.
Antiquity Cornelius will open into Davidson via a covered bridge and new road connection under construction at the end of South Street.
A 2004 legal agreement between Davidson and Cornelius requires a usable Cornelius entrance before Davidson will allow South Street to open. But deadlines in that agreement have come and gone without any sign of progress. (Read the agreement, CLICK HERE>)

Davidson firefighters burned down the former Kidd house at 303 Spring Street on Saturday, Dec. 9, in part for training.
After practicing with smaller fires in the morning, the fire department burned the house completely after lunch. Flames shot a hundred feet into the air and black smoke drifted over the neighborhood as the fire reached its most intense.
The unusual event attracted a crowd of Davidson residents, young and old. As waves of heat radiated from the building across Spring Street, one boy said, “We should’ve brought marshmallows.”

According to today’s Charlotte Observer, renovating the Davidson IB Middle School on South Street is a high priority for CMS.
Of 40 projects listed, the IB school renovation was ranked 11th. This bodes well for keeping the school in its present form and location. The district also envisions a new elementary school in the Davidson-Concord Road area.

A flyer handed out to some neighborhood residents this week says Davidson Fire Department will conduct a “practice burn” of a house at 303 Spring Street on Saturday, Dec. 9. The burn will result in street closings and smoke.
In a phone call this morning, developer Ken Studdard of Royal Building Co. said the burn will help clear the way for construction of the first of three houses he plans to build on about 3/4 acre.
Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of smoke. If the smoke will be an issue for you, the notice asks that you call Ken Studdard at 704-201-5705.
Read on for street closing information.

The town has finally made public the text of revisions to the Village Infill Planning Area rules that the town board adopted in October.
The changes will set new maximum building heights, setbacks and house square footage limits. The revisions are posted on the town Website. To read, CLICK HERE> (You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this document.)
The changes, approved by the Town Board Oct. 10, came in response to concerns that some new homes and renovations to existing homes in the old part of town are out of character with the surrounding neighborhood. Key provisions:
- Additions of more than 250 square feet must meet design and size restrictions.
- Front setbacks cannot be greater or less than other structures within 500 feet on either side, and must be within 10 feet of the closest adjoining house.
- Heights are restricted to 37 feet or 2 1/2 stories, whichever is less.
