CMUD replaces outdated fire hydrants

Subcontractors for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities dig up an outdated and obsolete fire hydrant for replacement on South Street Monday morning, Dec. 11.
The work is part of a county-wide project to replace old fixtures, a crew chief on South Street said Monday. Many of the two-nozzle hydrants being replaced are 75 years old or older. New hydrants can accommodate up to three hoses, including those on modern fire pumper trucks, he said.
